On the quest for distinguished coffee, you cannot miss Colombia. Colombia’s quality reputation stems from hard work and excellent terrain. A unique topographic characteristic also comes into play when describing the various facets of Colombian coffees: the three cordilleras of the Andes mountain range. Several microclimates are formed between and within the mountain ranges, resulting in exceptional conditions for high-quality coffee production.

Colombia only produces Arabica varieties which grow across around 15 different coffee producing regions. Among the most common varieties are Typica, Caturra and Castillo. Additionally, Colombia has year-round coffee production due to two harvests each year: the main harvest and a secondary harvest known locally as "mitaca.".

This washed coffee comes from Huila, one of the most renowned coffee-producing regions in Colombia—and for good reason. Huila boasts a perfect blend of fertile soils, high altitude, and an ideal climate for cultivating specialty coffee. Classified as Excelso, this coffee features large beans screened at sizes 15–16, slightly smaller than Supremo beans (screen 17). Excelso represents the largest volume of coffee exported from Colombia and is consistently available year-round. These beans are characterized by a clean cup, medium body, and rich acidity.

Historically, Colombia has been shattered by various periods of violence and setbacks. However, in the past 20 years, Colombia has leaped to becoming an economic powerhouse in Latin America. On the quest for distinguished coffees, you simply cannot miss Colombia. Its quality reputation stems from hard work and excellent terrain.

Colombia's natural beauty stems from its extreme diversity: two oceans, snow-peaked mountains and glaciers, endless deserts as well as the Amazon basin are found in this unique South American gem. The west of the country is dominated by three Andes mountain ranges, called the Cordilleras.

Due to their proximity to the equator, several microclimates are formed within these mountain ranges. Add to that altitude ranges from 800 to 2,200 meters, and you will start to realize why Colombian coffees are so diverse.
