On the quest for distinguished coffee, you simply cannot pass Colombia. It is the largest producer of washed Arabicas worldwide with a quality reputation that stems from hard work and excellent terrain. Distinctive topographic characteristics also come into play when talking about the different facets of Colombian coffee: the three cordilleras of the Andes mountain range. Between and within the mountain ranges, several microclimates are formed, resulting in excellent conditions for high-quality coffee production.

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is one of them. Isolated in northern Colombia, this mountain range is the highest coastal range in the tropics, with its highest peak reaching 5,700 masl. The area also has a rich indigenous heritage, being home to several indigenous groups such as the Arhuaco, Kogui, Wiwa, and Kankuamo communities. What's more, around 70% of its coffee is produced by farmers from the Arhuaco community.

This coffee was grown by Aso Seynekun, an association of indigenous Arhuaco families from Pueblo Bello in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The group comprises approximately 440 families dedicated to coffee production, while other members cultivate crops such as cacao and sugarcane. Together, they promote environmentally friendly agriculture by growing coffee using traditional methods, with environmental sustainability as a core pillar, alongside the well-being and development of their community.

Historically, Colombia has been shattered by various periods of violence and setbacks. However, in the past 20 years, Colombia has leaped to becoming an economic powerhouse in Latin America. On the quest for distinguished coffees, you simply cannot miss Colombia. Its quality reputation stems from hard work and excellent terrain.

Colombia's natural beauty stems from its extreme diversity: two oceans, snow-peaked mountains and glaciers, endless deserts as well as the Amazon basin are found in this unique South American gem. The west of the country is dominated by three Andes mountain ranges, called the Cordilleras.

Due to their proximity to the equator, several microclimates are formed within these mountain ranges. Add to that altitude ranges from 800 to 2,200 meters, and you will start to realize why Colombian coffees are so diverse.
